I love having a block of wood in my hands and imagining what might be locked inside. Then, with saw, knife, chisel, and gouge, I let it out. Unlike two-dimensional art, like painting and drawing, carving is so much more immersive. I am constantly shifting the piece, looking from this angle and that, so that my senses are more engaged. It's a delightfully tactile experience, and my favorite art form.
